Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. In the year 1967, Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. 1981 was the year she began reporting on at the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the budget and tax reform, as well as the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively with the president Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
